The Midland Railway branch from Ilkley to Skipton opened in 1888.
Between Bolton Abbey and Embsay on the outskirts of Skipton, the railway has been restored since closure as a heritage line. Embsay station has been restored as a typical ex Midland station of about 1930 and the signal box is part of that. It is an example of a standard design of the last years of the Midland and, restored to working order, controls operations on the heritage line.
By road: Close to A59, to the east of Skipton.
