About Toll House, Chiltern Open Air Museum

This former Toll House has been moved to the Chiltern Open Air Museum. It was originally in London Road, High Wycombe. It is thought to have been built for the Beaconsfield and Stokenchurch Turnpike Trust in 1826 in the form of a lodge with crennelation.

External features include a single-storey on canted bay front floor plan, having a pyramidal roof, with walls mainly of brick, roofed in slate, Gothick arch headed windows with tracery, no porch with a square headed doorway; protruding bay and central chimney. It has been re-erected and renovated sympathetically. Gates and a tollboard have been built alongside the tollhouse on a road within the museum park creating the original context for this building.

The building is Listed Grade II.
