What we do

The online home of the Essex Historic Military Vehicle Association (or Essex HMVA for short). We are a registered charity and one of the fastest growing military vehicle associations in the UK, with well over 250 members. Our aims are to help preserve military history, vehilces and artefacts.
Essex HMVA has a membership whose vehicles include push bikes, jeeps, land rovers, lorries, artillery and tanks. Historic Military Vehicles are in demand for events, living history displays and film work. Member's vehicles and equipment date from WW1 and WW2 through to relatively modern examples. We also welcome non-vehicle owning members living history reenactors, military collectors or historians. Although Essex based, you do not have to live in Essex to join. We have members from all over the country and Europe too. Essex HMVA have successfully worked with County and local councils, schools, community events organisers, civic societies, media, museums and researchers. In addition to running a showcase event "Echoes Of History" for over 15 years. Our associate members make us special. Along with our trustees, they form the volunteers who continue the work we as a charity undertake. We attend many events with vehicles or displays. Our educational team, visit schools, military establishments, or local groups giving talks, lectures or equipment demonstrations. We can engage directly with the public, through the fact people can see and hear the vehicles up close as well as touching and handling objects, they may have only seen in museums behind glass. We also work with those who have seen military service as well as those who are still serving. We publish a monthly newsletter and quarterly glossy magazine covering military history in addition to the historic military vehicle content.
