Gobowen is an outstanding design in a Florentine style, more like an Italian villa than a railway station. Completed in 1846 with white stucco facing, pairs of round-topped windows, a semi-circular apse, and a small turret, it is a gem.
The awnings and the footbridge were added later by the Great Western Railway, though the footbridge was demolished in 1987. Although a very small village, Gobowen was the junction station for the much larger regional town of Oswestry some three miles away. When rail services to Oswestry ceased in November 1966, Gobowen was retained as the railhead for the surrounding area. The station buildings at Gobowen are Grade II Listed. There is a scheme in progress to open this branch as a heritage railway.
Whittington station closed in 1960, had an ornamental porch, and oriel windows.
Renal & West Felton had a manorial flavour with brick and stone copings and kneelers, Tudor doorways and tall chimneys.
Baschurch also closed in 1960 was a two storey stucco house with steep gables, bargeboards. All are now private houses.
