Visit websiteSouth west of Huddersfield Station the joint Lancashire & Yorkshire/LNWR line entered Gledholt Tunnel and then split, the LNWR heading for Manchester, the LYR for Sheffield. Within the next four miles on the LNWR line there are four similar viaducts all built by A.S. Jee in 1849 with 9 m. ( 30 ft.) spans. They are:
Longwood, 20 arches
Golcar four arches
Crimble 19 arches
Slaithwaite 14 arches.
They are all within four miles of one another as the railway winds its way up the Colne valley. All are built of coursed rubble with round-headed arches, and all were widened around 1890.
By Road: Longwood is visible from Lower Gate in Longwood, Crimble and Slaithwaite from the streets of Slaithwaite.
