This fine stone toll house is thought to have been built for the Melksham Turnpike Trust in 1830-40. It is in the form of a lodge cottage with protruding front.
Its external features consist of a single-storey on a floor plan of canted bay front, with two wings. It has a hipped, hip over bay, roof, with walls mainly of squared stone. It is roofed in slate, has mullioned windows with casements, and an open porch with a round arch headed doorway. There is drip moulding around the windows and a central chimney stack in stone.
The building is Listed Grade II.
