Between 1880 and 1890, the Great North of Scotland Railway main line was converted to double-track between Dyce and Keith. The obstacle of the river Deveron south east of Keith was left until last when a new bridge was constructed alongside the old one in 1900.
It is a 64.8 m (212 ft 6 ins) long and 7.6m (25 ft wide single span deep Whipple-Murphy steel lattice-trussed girder. With its low basket-arched flood arch on either side, it is an impressive sight.
The original bridge was not demolished until 1978. The new bridge was reduced to single track in 1970 but remains in use. It is Grade B Listed Structure.
Rothiemay Station closed to regular passenger traffic on 6 May 1968.
By road: Close to B9022, south of Milltown of Rothiemay. There is also an interesting five span road bridge (1872, John Willet) over the river Deveron at Milltown, consisting of four cast iron spans and one masonry segmental arch.
