Visit websiteThe principal structure is thought to have been built for the Royston to Wandesford Bridge (South District) Turnpike Trust in the 19th century in the form of a lodge house with protruding front. Although currently a domestic property, only minor changes have been made to the original tollhouse structure.
External features; two-storeys on canted bay front with one wing floor plan, having a hipped, hip over bay roof, with walls mainly of brick, roofed in slate, square headed windows with sliding sash, no porch with a square headed doorway; yellow brick with extensions to north side, covering old weighbridge.
The bay-fronted tollhouse (No. 62) is attached to a similar building (No. 60) which has an end bay and is known as the Weighbridge (the now lost mechanism was also built by the turnpike trust to check overweight wagons).
The building is Listed Grade II.
