It is thought to have been built for the Marlborough and Swindon Turnpike Trust in the 19th century.
It was constructed in the form of a lodge house with an angular front. It has two-storeys on a canted bay front floor plan, having a hipped, hip over bay, roof, with walls mainly of brick, roofed in thatch, square headed windows with casements, and canopied with a square headed doorway.
The building is Listed Grade II.
