Visit websiteThe packhosre route from Cockermouth to Kendal climbed eastward from Waterhead over the hill to descend near Troutbeck. This is still a popular walking route. However the Turnpike road followed the side of lake Windermere.
This toll house was built in 1804. It survives as a shop and residence.
