It is thought to have been built for the Bodmin and Roche Turnpike Trust in the 19th century in the form of a lodge house with protruding front.
Its external features consist of two-storeys with a canted bay front, having a hipped, hip over bay, slate roof, with walls mainly of squared stone. It has Gothick arch headed windows with tracery, an open porch with a Gothick arch headed doorway. There is an ashlar stone front with space over the doorway for the tollboard.
The building is Listed Grade II.
