A Group visit to the RHDR has been arranged for Thursday 18th April 2024. Members will recall that we last visited the RHDR in October 2017 when our then President, The Hon Sir William McAlpine Bt., unveiled a Red Wheel at New Romney Station and it seemed timely that we should re-visit it again this year.

The RHDR is a 15in gauge light railway which began operating in 1927 and boasts the most complete collection of one-third full size steam locomotives in the world. It comprises 13½ miles of track stretching across the picturesque Romney Marsh from the Cinque Port town of Hythe to Dungeness, which is designated as a National Nature Reserve and the line is double track north of New Romney and single track south of it.

We are meeting up at Hythe Station (which is conveniently located just 10 minutes off the M20 at Junction 11) at 12 noon sharp, as we are booked on the 12.30pm departure, for a circular tour of the whole line; and refreshments are available on the station for those requiring them. The train has a 30 minute stop at New Romney on the way down to Dungeness to allow access to the Heritage Centre within the trip, together with another 50 minute stop at Dungeness itself, where refreshments are again available. Arrival back at Hythe is scheduled for 4.05pm.

Ample free parking is available adjacent to the station.

The charge for this visit is £25 for OAP Members (£28 for non-members) and anyone wishing to join us on this visit is encouraged to sign up quickly, as spaces are limited. Payment should be made to our Treasurer as follows:-

BACS to National Transport Trust Sort code 40-52-40 Account number 00035669 using the reference "RHDR and your surname".  Note cancellations can usually only be refunded up to 2 weeks prior to the visit
