A Group visit to the Reserve Collection of the Science Museum in Swindon has been arranged for Friday 12th July at 11.00am.

At present, the Reserve Collection is closed to members of the public but is planned to partially re-open in the Autumn, but as a bona fide group of transport enthusiasts, we have been allowed exclusive early access prior to its re-opening.

Initially, our visit will take the form of a guided tour which is likely to last for about an hour. The full range of exhibits is not available as many of the vehicles and transport artefacts are currently being moved around, but amongst other things, we will see a display of cars, fire engines, motorcycles and buses, including the only preserved example of a Brighton Trolleybus.  I had hoped that we would be permitted to see their aircraft collection including the last remaining Lockheed Constellation, but that won’t be possible this time and neither will the general public get to see any aircraft when the museum re-opens in the Autumn.

After the guided tour, we will be served tea and coffee, following which we will then be free to look at leisure at the collection. Unfortunately, there are no catering facilities on site, but we are allowed to bring a picnic, or alternatively, members can find somewhere to eat off-site afterwards.

The charge for this visit is £5 for Members (£8 for non-members) to include tea / coffee and anyone wishing to join us on this visit is encouraged to sign up quickly, as spaces are limited to just 15 people and places will be allocated on a “first come first served basis”. Once you have been notified that you have definitely been allocated a place on the visit, payment should be made to our Treasurer, but please do not send any payment until you have that confirmation.
You will be notified subsequently of how to make the payment
