A visit to the Battle of Britain Bunker at Uxbridge has been arranged on Friday 16th August at 2pm. It should appeal not only to aircraft enthusiasts but also more generally to anyone wanting to learn more about our history and the conduct of the defence of the country during WW2.

The visit comprises a tour lasting about an hour and the Bunker is reached by going down 76 steps into the underground 1940s Operations Room, which was used by RAF Fighter Command No.11. The Bunker is a series of rooms on two levels and comprises an Operations or Plotting Room with its large map table, squadron display boards, balloon and weather states and is exactly as it was when Winston Churchill visited on 15th September 1940.

The Tour begins with a seated presentation followed by a visit to the newly refreshed bunker exhibition, after which we are free to look around the fully accessible visitor centre and exhibition space with lifts and wheelchair access. Although the bunker itself involves the use of a staircase, for visitors with reduced mobility a pre-recorded virtual bunker tour in the wheelchair accessible auditorium is provided. A café can be found on site for those needing lunch or refreshments, together with a gift shop.

Parking, including disabled spaces, is available on site and for those travelling by public transport the nearest underground station is Uxbridge which involves a longish walk across the park and buses also stop nearby.
