A key source of funding for the Trust for its "Recognition" programmes

It is always difficult to raise the issue of legacies, but they do play a significant part in enabling the Trust to achieve its objectives.

The Trust aims to secure all income for day-to-day operations from membership subscriptions. Beyond that we currently have other major "Recognition" initiatives, notably our Red Wheel programme and our Annual Awards, as well as our web site, which underpins these.

The Recognition initiatives are predominately funded from donations and past legacies.

Like many other charities, without legacies the Trust’s financial position would not enable us to carry out much of our core work.  For the Trust this includes work to recognise the effort that goes on in Transport Preservation and to highlight Transport Heritage sites of special interest with the award of Red Wheel plaques.

Legacies can be large or small. Funds donated in this way are a vital element in ensuring the continuation of our work to preserve and recognise our Transport Heritage.

A legacy donation can thus bring great benefit to the Transport Preservation movement and, as we are a charity, it does have benefits for the donor’s estate.

Leaving a legacy simply involves mentioning the National Transport Trust (charity number 280943) in your will, with a statement of your wishes.

Our Legacy document, obtained by clicking the link below, gives more detailed information on how to leave a Legacy to the Trust.
