What we do
The TSBT is a registered charity that exists to preserve two Thames barges in sailing condition for the benefit of the public and to pass on the skills required to sail them. Although the TSBT owns the barges they are operated by a wholly owned trading subsidiary TSBT Sailing and Charters Limited. This is a non-profit company and all sailing fees and membership subscriptions are used to maintain and restore the barges and meet their operating expenses.
Thames Sailing Barge Trust Activities
The Trust provides sailing opportunities for the public between May and September. The Trust's sailing programme is published on its website. On these overnight trips, those sailing become part of the crew. Pudge can cater for up to 12 passengers and Centaur 8. The Trust also engages with the community by holding open days, undertaking talks, visiting schools, and holding children's activity days. The Trust also operates a training scheme where we take on 10 trainees each year with the plan to train them up to be mates and the skippers. The scheme is designed to enhance the number of crew available to sail these vessels into the future.
