What we do
The Boat Building Academy was founded in 1997 by naval commander Tim Gedge. Since then, we have trained over 2500 people.
Students and tutors of Boat Building and Furniture Making are united by a love of natural materials and high-level craftsmanship. Stories are shared in tea breaks and lunch breaks, and all this contributes to the vibrant friendly atmosphere that makes the BBA such a special place.
Our tutors are dedicated to passing on both heritage and more modern skills. This training and the resulting work of our students has gained us international recognition as a Centre of Excellence
Our home is a converted Air Sea Rescue Base in a stunning location, right next to the beach in Lyme Regis and close to the picturesque old harbour.
