This small toll house is thought to have been built for the Barnstaple Turnpike Trust in 1843 in the form of a lodge cottage with protruding front.
The external features consist of single-storey on a floor plan of a canted bay front with two wings, having a hipped roof, with walls mainly of render, roofed in slate, Gothick arch headed windows with sliding sash, and an enclosed porch with a square headed doorway. There is a chimney at each end of the ridge, and the roof over the porch is flat. A well preserved example with original windows; similar in design to the other Barnstaple Trust toll houses at Chapelton and Abbot's Marsh.
The building is Listed Grade II.
