This curious little toll house is in Devon, though it is thought to have been built by a Somerset Trust, the Minehead and Bampton Road Turnpike Trust.
It was built in the 19th century in the form of a lodge house with protruding front. It is unusual in being a symmetrical building, and isolated on an island by the roads at the junction. It is currently a domestic property with only minor changes to the original structure.
External features: two-storeys on octagonal floor plan, having a pyramidal roof, with walls mainly of render, roofed in slate, square headed windows with casements, an enclosed porch with a square headed doorway; central brick chimney and blocked recesses with round headed arches on sides without windows. The mixture of round-headed and square headed openings is unusual. The tollboard recess is square headed and earlier had a window inserted.
The building is Listed Grade II.
