This little building is thought to have been built for the Shepton Mallet Turnpike Trust in the 19th century. It is in the form of a lodge cottage with a protruding front. It is currently attached to hotel property and only minor changes to the original tollhouse structure have been made.
External features: single-storey on canted bay front floor plan, having a hipped, hip over bay, roof, with walls mainly of rough stone, roofed in slate, square headed windows with sliding sash, a blocked front with a masonry replacement to the doorway; overhanging eaves form veranda in front. It has a central brick chimney stack.
The building is Listd Grade II.
