The Great North of Scotland was the smallest of Scotland's five pre-grouping railways, yet was reckoned to have among the finest of railway boardrooms in Britain. The company's headquarters, just across the road from the Joint Station, opened in 1894 with a grand staircase, and six years later a hotel was built alongside which passed into its ownership in 1910. Both premises were sold into private hands in 1983, and when visited the Boardroom was found to be in use for first-aid training. Station and Hotel continue to benefit from their proximity to each other, and the Great North of Scotland Railway Association holds its meetings in the Station Hotel.
