Churchill Barriers, Orkney 17/07/1905

constructed 1940-44 - connecting communities today, the four barriers were originally built to defend the vital naval base in Scapa Flow

Caledonian Canal, Fort Augustus 17/07/1905

A 60 mile navigation through the Great Glen, designed by Thomas Telford and William Jessop, principally to boost the local economy and enable safer movement of the fishing fleet. Opened 1822

Crinan Canal 17/07/1905

Opened in 1801 to shorten the route between the Clyde and Hebrides. Designed by John Rennie with later improvements by Thomas Telford.

Southend Cliff Lift 17/07/1905

Opened 1912 and unique in the UK for having a single car counter-balanced

by a weight running directly beneath the main track

Denny Ship Model Experiment Tank, Dumbarton 17/07/1905

Granton Gas Works Station, Edinburgh 17/07/1905

Buillt on a private branch line by the Edinburgh & Leith Gas Commissioners to serve their workers in an area of limited public transport. 1902- 1942 

Blackpool Rigby Road Heritage Tram Shed 17/07/1905

Built 1935 to house a fleet of contemporary trams - many double deck. Unique in still being used for the housing, maintenance and operation of the same heritage fleet.
